Hachimangu Children’s Sumo Tournament | KAWAGOE

June 10 @ 08:00 - 16:00

The 11th annual children’s sumo tournament at Kawagoe’s Hachimangu shrine will be on June 10th this year, from 8 am to 4 pm.  This tournament is open to boys and girls aged between 4 and 10 years old.

The deadline to enter your child in this annual popular kids sumo tournament is May 27th 2018.  Click for Entry form (Japanese only).

Hachimangu is one of many shrines in Kawagoe that is revered for its influence in marriage. Especially because of the divine gingko tree which in fact is two gingko trees that were planted separately and grew into one another. Moreover the shrine is “ichinomiya”, literally the first shrine, in Kawagoe.

The children’s sumo tournament is one of many popular annual events. Even if you haven’t entered your child in the tournament you can pop by to spectate this rare occasion.
