iruma air base summer evening festival

Iruma Air Base Summer Evening Festival – Each year the Iruma Air Base opens the gates to the public for a handful of community events, such as the Summer Evening Festival in July. This year it is on Wednesday the 24th of July. If there is bad weather on that day it will be changed to July 25th.

Approximately 28,000 people attend the festival that has Bon Odori and fireworks. They launch about 900 fireworks. There are about 50 festival stalls. The festival starts at 6 pm and the fireworks start at 8.30 pm.

Iruma air base, just like Inariyama Park also in Sayama, was once part of Johnson Air Force base during the occupation years. Before the occupation it was the airfield for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force Academy.
