Iwatsuki Dolls Festival

Iwatsuki Dolls Festival – Iwatsuki is a very famous “Hina”, traditional Japanese doll, town often referred to as the “city of dolls”. Dolls have been made in Iwatsuki since the 17th century. The doll making of Iwatsuki was awarded the prestigious Traditional Craft Product designation by both the prefecture and the country.

The city has two doll museums; Togyoku Doll Museum and Tokyu Doll Museum. In the former you can even watch dolls being made, and the latter has a display of over 1,000 dolls from not only Japan but around the globe too.

Iwatsuki Dolls Festival

The 2019 doll festival in the city of dolls will open on February 23rd. For the opening ceremony they have a very special doll parade as well as other cultural performances such as yosakoi dance and taiko drums.
