Kamitome Festival Miyoshi in 2020
August 23 @ 10:00 - August 24 @ 19:00Free
The Kamitome festival is held annually on August 23rd and 24th. It is a local traditional festival protecting and promoting the local culture. Kamitome is one of three rice fields that make up Santome Shinden. New rice fields that were saved in the 17th century. It holds much significance to the locals as the area still holds traces of life during that period. They perpetuate the town’s history and culture through this annual celebration.
The festival is held at Kinomiyajizodo which has carved wooden ceilings you can view during the festival period. This is the only time of the year that you can enter the shrine and see the ceiling.
Please note the festival is a small, local festival and you’d only need about half an hour there during the day. However, on the 23rd there is bon dance. On both days there are some festival stalls between 10 am and 7 pm. You can extend your visit to the area by visiting one of the three main attractions in the really cool and unique Santome Village.
Take a bus from Tsuruse station on the Tobu Tojo Line. It takes about 18 minutes.
