Kodai Hasu No Sato Illumination | GYODA
November 23, 2019 @ 16:30 - January 5, 2020 @ 21:30Free
Kodai Hasu no Sato Illumination – Gyoda City, Kodai Hasu no Sato “ancient lotus pond”, is best known for its paddy art which you can view from an observational tower. It really is a sight to behold. The rice paddy art attracts visitors in the Autumn and in winter it is the night illumination. Until 2017 there was also a straw art event in winter, but it was dropped last year and may not come back this year either.
This year, 2019, the winter illumination dates are from November 23rd, a public holiday in Japan, until Sunday January the 5th. The illumination is turned on once it gets dark and stays on until 9.30 pm. It is one of the longest running night illuminations in Saitama.
They use approximately 150,000 lights for the display. The tower, which usually closes in the evening, stays open until about half an hour before the lights are switched off at night. The event itself is free, but if you want to view from the observation tower there is a 400 yen cover charge for that.
