May Poppy and Flower Festival | KOUNOSU

Kounosu Flower Festival – The poppy festival that is held annually in Konosu is quite well known, but they also have other flower festivals around the same time. Each of the festivals is carried out at different locations. The city of Konosu hold different events on the weekends during the flower festival periods.
The open garden is not just one location, but a number of gardens near the poppy fields that allow people to visit during the two weekends of the open garden festival. You will need to use a guide map to find and visit the locations as they are not marked on any online map. Here is the latest guide map, Japanese only: Konosu Open Garden Guide Map
May 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th: Open Garden with performances scheduled each day.
May 11th to 19th: Hanahisa No Sato Rose Festival with events on the 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th.

Konosu Poppy Festival
The poppy field in Konosu is the largest in Japan at 12.5 hectares. There are an estimated 30,000,000 poppies in bloom.
May 18th to 26th: Poppy Festival at Japan’s largest poppy field with special events on the 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th. There will be stage and live performances each day. Last year there was also a small mascot event on the last weekend. That has not yet been confirmed for this year.
Each year they have a date when they allow people view the fields from Japan’s longest water pipe, which is above the fields. The year before last it was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions, but weather permitting it will go ahead this year.

Kounosu Flower Festival Access
Take the “Flower Go” 「フラワー号」Mamuro course 「馬室コース」bus from JR Konosu Station’s west exit to the kyuushoku sentaa 「給食センター」. The poppy fields are about a 5 minute walk from this station.
