Roadside station splash and lantern festival | YOSHIMI
August 24 @ 13:00 - 19:30Free
Splash and lantern festival at Yoshimi Ichigo no Sato Roadside station. A summer festival for children.
The Ichigo no Sato Roadside station is a one stop for truckers and drivers to take a rest on the road. The updated and upgraded it a few years ago and added a lovely playground for children. There is a small market there almost every weekend as well as a farmers market (indoor) shop that is open daily. There is a bakery, a restaurant and a few food kiosks too.
The festival is free to enter, there maybe individual charges. The lantern in the festival are handmade and anyone can make one at the crafting event that is open from 1 pm to 6 pm. It is free for the first 100 participants.
The splash part is between 2 and 4 pm. Make sure to bring a towel and change of clothes! They recommend that you have something for the kids to drink too.
Between 4 and 5.30 pm they have nagashi udon (usually its somen!), where udon is floated down bamboo shoots for kids to grab with their chopsticks as it nears the end of the bamboo pipe. Its a really fun Japanese traditional summer activity. It is free for preschoolers, 100 yen for elementary aged kids and 300 yen for anyone over 12.
There are other festival events planned for the evening and early night before the festival winds up around 7 pm.
