Sakado Bamboo Lantern Festival Updated
April 28 @ 11:00 - 20:00Free
The Sakado Bamboo lantern festival is still a relatively unknown off-the-beaten-track festival. Although, it has been around for a few years already – in fact it is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year. Last year there were “only” about 3,000 people which sounds like a lot, but it is only just 3% of the total population of Sakado.
Interestingly, the festival isn’t even listed on the Sakado City website, but it is featured on the Saitama Prefecture Tourist website. There is no exclusive homepage for the event.
There are live performances and food / festival stalls throughout the duration of the festival. Which is from 11 am to 8 pm on Sunday April 28th 2019. It is held at Sakado’s Koma River Cherry Blossom embankment.
Access Sakado Bamboo Lantern Festival
Update: the map I initially posted was for the Koma River cherry blossoms, which is actually the site of the festival, but the map was slightly off. I have updated the map accordingly. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Take a bus from Sakado Station’s North exit to Sakura primary school and walk five minutes to the embankment area beside Sakura Junior High school. By car it is close to the Sakado Nishi Smart Interchange of the Kanetsu expressway. To use this interchange, like with all “Smart” Interchanges, you must have an ETC card. You can not pay with cash or credit card at this interchange.
