Satte Daffodil Festival
January 5 @ 08:30 - February 9 @ 17:00Free
Satte Daffodil Festival (also known as the Narcissus Festival) in Gongendo Park, Satte, Saitama.
Gongendo is a prefectural park in Satte, renowned for its seasonal flowers. Today, December 20th 2019, the park’s official website posted an announcement that the daffodils have been declared open. Several are already in bloom, with some opening as early as December 1st.
Gongendo Park in Satte City, Saitama Prefecture, is best known for its stunning cherry blossom and rapeseed scenery in Spring. It is also well known for its red spider lilies in the Autumn. In more recent years the hydrangea are also enjoying acclaim, especially the Annabel variety which the park is renowned for.
In the past couple of years, the park has also tried to increase visitors during winter. In a bid to attract people in the colder months, they have been planting daffodil since 2005. There are now 500,000 daffodils in the park. And the daffodil festival is becoming better known in the greater Kanto area.
The 2020 Daffodil festival has been confirmed as starting on January 5th and will continue until Sunday February 9th. I assume the earlier ending period is due to the early blooming of the daffodil as normally the festival goes a few days past Valentine’s day.
An estimated 115,000 people will come to see the daffodil in Satte over the course of the flower festival. Please note the park maybe closed if there is bad weather such as snow.
The park was only officially opened in 2011, but the area and some of the flora and fauna (including the cherry blossoms) have existed long before that. The park brought with it multipurpose athletic grounds and a playground.
