Gongendo Park in Satte City, Saitama Prefecture, is best known for its stunning cherry blossom and rapeseed scenery in Spring. It is also well known for its red spider lilies in the Autumn. In more recent years the hydrangea are also enjoying acclaim, especially the Annabel variety which the park is renowned for.
The 2018 Hydrangea festival will be held from June 1st to July 1st. There are approximately 16,000 hydrangea of 100 different varieties. There are approximately 3,000 of the Annabel variety. An estimated 563,000 people will come to see the hydrangea in Satte over the course of the flower festival. Please note the park maybe closed during bad weather conditions.
The park was only officially opened in 2011, but some of the flora and fauna (including the cherry blossoms) have existed long before that. The park brought with it multipurpose athletic grounds and a playground.
