The main weekend of the Satte Summer Festival is usually the 2nd weekend in July. This year, 2018, it falls on July 14th and 15th.
The large lantern floats are one of the major attractions of this annual 4 day three hundred year old festival. On the Saturday they are paraded around from 1 pm to 10 pm. On Sunday they are paraded around before being lined up on Chuo Dori street around 2.30 pm. The festival culminates with the floats gradually building up speed as they turn round and round. That usually begins in the late afternoon as the sun begins to set.
Over the 4 days there are festival stalls and different events happening around the exit of Tobu Nikko Line Satte Station. More information here
(May 2017 – online information for 2017 festival has not been updated yet).
Approximately 60,000 people come to enjoy the festival.
