Sheep Shearing demonstration at Saitama Children’s Zoo
May 6 @ 14:30 - 15:30
Sheep Shearing Demonstration and Talk at the Saitama Children’s Zoo on bank holiday Monday May 6th, Golden Week special event.
As a special Golden Week event the Saitama Children’s zoo (also known as Saitama Children’s Animal Nature Park) will have a sheep shearing demonstration on Monday May 6th from 2.30 pm. It takes place in the petting corner where the sheep and other farm animals are kept. You can watch up close as the sheep is sheared.
During the demonstration a zoo staff will give a talk about sheep and shearing. Afterwards the wool will be laid out on a blue sheet for children (and adults) to touch and experience what freshly sheared wool feels like.
The event information is not on the zoo’s website for some reason, but it is on the official website of the Saitama prefecture. More information about the zoo from the official zoo website here. More information about the zoo in English here.
The event itself costs nothing, but you do have to pay into the zoo for anyone over six years old. It costs 510 yen to enter the zoo for adults and 210 for children aged above 6 years old.

The Saitama Children’s Zoo (Animal Nature Park) is a bus ride from Takasaka Station on the Tobu Tojo Line. If you are coming by car, there is a large car park and an overflow car park as well as several private car parks in the area. The private car parks cost 500 yen per day on average. The official car parks cost 600 yen per day.
Sheep shearing and sheep talks are something you can see regularly in Ikaho Green Farm in Gunma prefecture.
We hope fans of the Rugby World Cup 2019 can sample a taste of what this beautiful country of Japan has to offer, while enjoying the games. We wish all teams and all supporters the very best, but…
