Main weekend of the Shiki Summer Festival | SHIKI

Shiki Summer Festival – The city of Shiki host a number of festivals during the month of July every year. They are collectively known as Shiki Summer Festival, with a 100+ year history. The weekend after the July public holiday each year is the main event that attracts hundreds of thousands people. This year that is July 21st and 22nd. (The other dates of the festivals are July 8th, 14th and 15th.)
Shiki Summer Festival at Shikishima Shrine
The main event of the Shiki Summer festival falls on July 21st and 22nd this year. The area is around Shikishima Shrine. The main thoroughfare leading to the shrine is pedestrianized for the event and is lined with festival stalls.
The festival starts about noon. The main attractions of the day are both in the evening, around 6 pm. They are the mikoshi*↓ and traditional dance starts. Two mikoshi are carried around the area for hours on end. The children’s mikoshi is scheduled for earlier in the day, around noon.

Access Summer Festival Shiki
The site of the main weekend of the Shiki Summer festivals is the Shikishima Shrine, relatively close to the city hall. The nearest station is Yanasegawa Station on the Tobu Tojo Line, it is about a 25 / 30 minute walk from the shrine. You can get a bus to the city hall and walk – it takes about 8 minutes.
