July 15 @ 15:00 - July 16 @ 21:00

Okegawa Gion Festival

The Okegawa Gion Festival has been celebrated for the last 280 years. Okegawa city is not a particularly famous or popular city in contemporary society, but once upon a time it was a key commerical hub along the Nakasendo Path. The Nakasendo Road was like a highway that connected Kyoto and Edo.

The Okegawa Gion Festival has about 400 festival stalls and attracts approximately 100,000 people over the 2 days of festivities. It is celebrated annually on July 15th and 16th. Both days the festival runs between 3pm and 9pm (approximately), with the main events scheduled for between 5 pm and 8 pm.

Okegawa Gion Festival Access

The festival is held close to the East exit of JR Takasaki Line Okegawa station.
