Santa Claus in Tokyo |OCHANOMIZU 2016

This year Saint Clair in Ochanomizu are celebrating 10 years of Santa visits. It is not only one of the longest running Finland Santa’s in Tokyo, but also one of the most popular. People queue for hours for the chance to meet the real Santa.

This year Santa is visiting between 11 am and 3 pm on the 3rd of December. He will do an open address before that. It is a free event, but restricted to the first 120 families. You can meet Santa, shake his hand and get a photo with him. They start giving out the tickets around 11 am and they give a candy with the ticket.  People start to queue from early morning. You can’t meet him without a ticket.

Each year they hold a number of different events in conjunction with Santa’s visit such as live music and workshops. In line with the special anniversary they have a few additional events happening such as a commemorative coaster to the first 2000 customers.

For the month of December Sunshine Aquarium in Ikebukuro are running a number of Christmas events. Some are covered by the regular cost of the entrance into Sunshine Aquarium, but some require an additional fee.**This information is for 2015, a similar event has been confirmed for 2016**

Santa Dive

Currently, one of the special events covered by the standard admission price is a Santa Dive. This is a special show with Santa and his reindeers, which includes a dive performance by Santa. It is held daily at 11.30am and 3pm for 10 minutes each time.

Sea Lion Performance time

Also, covered by the general admission is the Sea Lions performing to Christmas music and handbells. Each day at 11.00am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm for 10 minutes each time.

A photo with the Reindeers

For 1,200 yen you can get your photo taken with Santa’s reindeer and sleigh. The reindeer are there each day at 11am, 12 noon, 2pm and 3pm for 30 minutes each time.

Santa hat

They are giving a Santa hat with purchases of soft toys of more than 1,000 yen.

Sunshine Aquarium Entry Fees and Times

Hours: Winter hours – 10am to 6pm. (Till 8pm from December 23rd to 25th).
Price: 2000 yen for adults, 1,700 yen for seniors, 1,000 yen for students, 700 yen for preschoolers, free for under 3.
Tickets can be bought in advance in most convenience stores.

The Hilton Odawara in Kanagawa are once again this year, very kindly, offering a photo with Santa opportunity daily until the 25th. This event is already running, since November 4th. Each day between 3 pm and 4 pm you can meet Santa in the front lobby of the Hilton and request to get your photo taken with him. This is a free event and they welcome people of all ages.

The front lobby also has a spectacular Christmas train and a Christmas Market.  Their full Christmas programme can be viewed here:

Take the Metropolitan Expressway (Kuko chuou) to the Tomei Expressway Atsugi Interchange. Take Odawara Atsugi Road to the Ishibashi Interchange onto Route 135, then the intersection at Manazuru Road to the Hilton Odawara Resort & Spa.


Take the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, then the JR Yamanote Line to Shinagawa. Take the bullet train to Odawara then free shuttle bus (Mon to Fri, except holidays) to the hotel. Free shuttle is available also from Nebukawa Station daily.


Santa Claus is coming to LaQua | Tokyo Dome City

Santa Claus is visiting LaQua in Tokyo Dome City on the Marunouchi, Namboku, Oedo, Mita Subway Lines and JR Chuo and Sobu Lines. He has already been twice this year in November and he has planned more visits this month.

On Sunday 6th, 13th, 19th and 20th Santa Claus will be in LaQua at 15.00, 16.00, 17.00 and 18.00. Each time he will be in the shop and restaurant area for 30 minutes. He will be greeting everyone as he walks around, but if you ask him, he will stop for you to get a photo together.

FUN! FUN! Christmas | Sunroute Plaza Tokyo

Throughout the lead up to Christmas Disney’s official hotel Sunroute Plaza Tokyo have a number of Christmas events on as well as Winter illumination.  They have a great Christmas package for an overnight stay. Please see their website for more information.

From the 23rd to the 25th from the Sunroute Plaza Hotel they have a particularly special Christmas event, for both guests and the general public. They are offering an opportunity to get a photo with Santa Claus, for free. Santa Claus will be available for photos in front of the “sweet house”, pictured below, in the lounge area of the ground floor (1st floor in Japanese/American) from 6 to 7pm and again from 8 to 9pm.  Santa will have sweets for children of kindergarten / preschool age and younger.  Don’t forget your camera!

Santa is coming |Grandberry Mall


Grandberry Mall is fantastic for free events and displays around all the big seasonal holidays. Christmas is no exception. The Mall is already lit up at night with wonderful winter illumination, they have Christmas decorations and are offering a variety of workshops and events. One of the events is a visit with Santa.

Santa Claus will be at Grandberry Mall on the 19th, 20th and 23rd of December at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm for 30 minutes each time. The first 100 customers will get to meet Santa and receive a gift of candy. Santa Claus in Tokyo |Ochanomizu

On Saturday December 5th, for the 9th year in a row, the Ochanomizu Santa Claus will visit from Finland. This very popular event will take place around Ochanomizu train station between 11am and 3pm. There are a number of different events planned for the course of the day, including live music, Santa meet and greet with present and photo opportunities.
