The annual Capybara Onsen at the Saitama Children’s Animal Nature park will start from Saturday November 18th until the end of March. The end date will be determined at a later date depending on weather and other factors.
The event will take place daily on the days the zoo is open from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm. Please note the zoo closes on Mondays all year round and on Tuesdays during January. It is also closed over New Years. The first 12 customers in line will be able to get up close and personal with the capybara and enjoy a foot spa in the same enclosure. There is no additional cost for viewing the capybara, but there is a small fee for the foot spa event.
During the first week of the capybara onsen there is usually the popular animal stage event, where the animals put on a show in the main theatre (near the paddling pool, beside the Beatrix Potter museum). They currently have their annual art festival running at the zoo too. You can try your hand at some animal crafts during this period. It will run until December. Another event that can be enjoyed during Winter in the zoo is the annual gift giving to animals which takes place on a Saturday or Sunday near Christmas. All of these events are free to participate in, once you have paid into the zoo itself.
Information for the Capybara event has yet to be up-dated on the official website. For more information in English on seasonal events at the zoo and for general information in English:
