I have reintroduced “This weekend in Saitama”, by request, on a trial basis. You can of course find an event at anytime through the events calendar. To save time, I am sharing the pick up events from the event calendar. You don’t have to click into the event to see the date, time, cost and location. 🎎Hina Matsuri Tokorozawa Dolls Festival 2019

Iwatsuki maybe the most famous doll producing town in Saitama, but Tokorozawa also has a doll making history. And they celebrate the dolls festival for a month starting on February 9th:

There are a number of heritage homes and museums that exhibit hina doll displays for the lead up to girls day. One of the earlier ones is Toyama Memorial Museum in Kawajima:

🍓Strawberry Picking

Strawberry Picking is in full swing now and this weekend is prime picking time. Some of the strawberry picking farms will only open until the end of February, although most will run until May. Find a strawberry picking farm near you:

Spring Festivals

🌷Happy Spring Festival

Shinrin Park’s annual spring festival starts on February 9th. The witch hazel and snowdrops should be in bloom:

Illumination

🔦Cocoon City Illumination

Cocoon City Illumination is one of at least three night illumination displays that will be switched off on Valentine’s day. The illumination in the neighbouring Keyaki Hiroba will also finish on February 14th.

🔦Kawaguchi Illumination

This year Kawaguchi’s illumination is bigger than ever. This is the last weekend it will be up and on as, like the two in Saitama Shintoshin, it will be switched off on Valentine’s day:
