The plan was for this post to be about the Christmas Lights in Sakado that I’ve heard so much about. However, having gone to visit them earlier in the week, I realized they really don’t deserve a post all of their own. So I decided to share the information along with other places you can see Christmas Lights in Saitama Prefecture every year. Please note, that by and large Christmas ends on December 25th in Japan. Therefore a lot of these light displays end on Christmas Night, the 25th. But there are a few places that do it Western style and leave their Christmas lights up until the end of the first week in January.
Christmas Lights in Saitama Prefecture
They are not in any particular order, but I did put the Sakado station location first as it was the inspiration for this post! Unless otherwise stated, there is no charge to view the Christmas lights on this list.
- Sakado station north Times parking lot
- Rikkyo University Niiza Campus
- Wakaba Walk
- Fresa Yoshimi
- Kasukabe Station
- Iruma Outlet
- Lalaport Fujimi
- Metsa Village
- Peony Walk
On top of the ones on this list, there are several other places you can see Christmas lights as part of a larger illumination display. For example, Cocoon City’s illumination runs until Valentine’s Day, but they have Christmas trees and lights until Christmas Day. You can also sometimes see Christmas light displays in people’s private gardens, such as in the Fukuda area of Kawagoe.
1. Sakado Station north Times parking lot
Over the years I’ve heard about this display, it even featured in Saitama Newspaper in 2019. But I only checked it out for the first time in 2023. I’ll put it this way – if you are in the area, by all means drop by, but I really wouldn’t go out of your way to see it. Its small and not nearly as exciting or impressive as other Christmas light displays of its size. I was raging I spent a 100 yen, the parking fee, to visit it! It really isn’t worth 100 yen at all. But I must admit it was a very clever idea by the parking lot owner!
Dates: generally from around December 1st to the 25th.
Venue: Times Sakado Station North Exit, 2 Hinodecho, Sakado, Saitama 350-0225. View on Google Maps.
2. Rikkyo University Niiza Campus
This is probably the only place on the list that is about the Christian celebration of Christmas and not the commercial value of it. Therefore, the lights are on in accordance with the church calendar – from the start of Advent to Epiphany day. Reportedly, they have had Christmas lights for the last 60 years. Apart from the Christmas lights, Rikkyo University also offer religious (Anglican) services on Christmas Eve to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. There are also other special events at St Paul’s Cathedral during the period, such as a Christmas Concert on December 20th.
Dates: from December 4th 2023 to January 6th 2024, from 4 pm to 9.30 pm. But on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day the lights are on all night. From the 26th the lights are turned off at 9 pm.
Venue: Rikkyo University Niiza Campus, 1 Chome-2-26 Kitano, Niiza, Saitama 352-0003. View on Google Maps.
3. Wakaba Walk
Wakaba Walk has had a Christmas tree annually for years. They used to have a statue of Santa Claus in front of it too, but now they just have a chair, so you can get a nice photo in front of the tree. There are also some other small light installations in the center too. They will have a Christmas market, ‘Wakaba Walk Christmas Style’ on December 16th and 17th too.
Dates: from November 22nd. The end date is not yet available.
Venue: Wakaba Walk, 1 Chome-2-1 Fujimi, Tsurugashima, Saitama 350-2201. View on Google Maps.
4. Fresa Yoshimi
This was one of my personal favorites to bring the kids to when they were still small (under eight). I have not yet been to the 2023 display, but I have been most other years and this illumination is usually interactive for children. They normally have some Christmas concerts on during the lead up to Christmas too.
Dates: from December 3rd to the 24th 2023.
Venue: Fresa Yoshimi, 508 Nakaarai, Yoshimi, Hiki District, Saitama 355-0119. View on Google Maps.
5. Kasukabe Station
I heard about this Christmas illumination on City-cost.com, but I have not yet seen it myself. Reportedly, each year the station decorate the rotary with Christmas lights. Each year they also have a switch on event on the first night, with food trucks and some live music.

6. Mitsui Outlet Park Iruma
Once upon a time, this was one of only a handful of places that had a Christmas tree annually in Saitama Prefecture. And for that reason, despite not being the fanciest tree on the list, a lot of people still visit the outlet annually, just to see the tree. Iruma Outlet’s tree went up on November 3rd.
Dates: from November 3rd to December 25th 2023, lit up from 4 pm to 9 pm.
Venue: Iruma Outlet, 3169-1 Miyadera, Iruma, Saitama 358-8515. View on Google Maps.
This illumination starts with a festival on the first night. And because this year was the 10th anniversary of the Christmas Lights festival, they had a fireworks at the festival.
Dates: from Saturday December 9th 2023 to Sunday January 7th 2024. Lights are on from 4.30 pm to 9 pm nightly.
Venue: Kamikawa Town Central Community Center 神川町中央公民館, 867-2 Uetake, Kamikawa, Kodama District, Saitama 367-0245. View on Google Maps.
8. Lalaport Fujimi
Lalaport Fujimi usually has both indoor and outdoor Christmas trees and lights. In addition to the trees in the outdoor plaza, the outside plants are also decorated illuminations. The largest of the Christmas trees, a 7.2 meter tree plays music and lights up every 30 minutes. They also usually have some Christmas events. And before the pandemic Santa Claus usually visited. Last year, he visited the Lalaport in Ebina, but not Fujimi. He’s currently not scheduled to visit in 2023 either, but Lalaport has a Christmas Festival on this weekend.
Dates: from November 3rd to December 25th 2023
Venue: Lalaport Fujimi, 1 Chome-1313 Yamamuro, Fujimi, Saitama 354-8560. View on Google Maps.
9. Metsa Village
Metsa Village have several different events for Christmas each year. In addition, the park is decorated with Christmas lights and this year they have a projection mapping display, the first of its kind in Japan. Santa Claus will be visiting Metsa. You can get the information for that and seven other Christmas events at Metsa in the article embedded above.
Dates: from Thursday November 9th to Monday December 25th 2023.
Venue: Metsa, 327‐6 Miyazawa, Hanno City, Saitama〒357-0001 Japan. View on Google Maps.
10. Peony Walk
These days, most of the larger malls have Christmas decorations and lights in the lead up to Christmas. I’ve chose Peony Walk for this entry as it is one I have photos for! There are Christmas trees indoors and Christmas lights outdoors.
Dates: until December 25th 2023.
Venue: Peony Walk, 4 Chome-3-番 Azumacho, Higashimatsuyama, Saitama 355-8606. View on Google Maps.
