Showa 99 retro festival

The Showa-99 Retro Festival is a new festival in Sakado city. This is the first year, possibly the only year, of this festival organized by the Nishi-Iruma Junior Chamber of Commerce. Its so named, because this year, 2024, would have been the 99th year of the Showa era. The festival takes place on an old style shopping street, which is very ‘retro’ itself…

Showa 99-nen Retro Festival

Sun Road the location for the Sakado Festival and Showa 99 retro festival

The festival is to take place on Sun Road and the Times Sakado Station North parking lot. The main venue is the latter – the parking lot. There are live stage performances, a “Showa” fashion show, food stalls, beer garden and a kids festival area. There will also be some kids sumo! In addition, local mascots will be on site and will participate in a dance parade. Among the mascots are two of my favorites – Tsurugon, a dragon and the mascot of Tsurugashima City, and Umerin, the mascot of Ogose City.
