Sashiogi Festival

Sashiogi festival and the Sashiogi Art Festa are part of the “Omiya Summer Festivals”. They are two festivals that run back to back on the same day. Sashiogi is a rural area of Saitama City’s Nishi Ward. It is a really beautiful area with some hidden gems, including two hydrangea shrines that look stunning in June. There is also a campsite in the area… so if you want to make a night of it!

Sashiogi Art Festa

In 2024 both festivals (art festa and summer festival) are on Saturday August 17th. The day starts with the 10th annual Sashiogi art festa. It is held from 9.30 am to 6 pm. The local junior high and elementary school’s music clubs perform in venues around Sashiogi. The Art Festa is predominantly organised by the local schools. There are three different sites for the daytime event: the Sashiogi Elementary School’s sports hall, the flood catch fields of Takinuma river (opposite the elementary school) and the Sashiogi Community Hall. They also have a craft corner.

Sashiogi Festival

After the art festa, the 52nd annual summer festival begins. It is more a ‘local’ festival than most other of the Omiya Summer Festivals. In 2024, it is on from 6 pm and will finish around 9 pm. The highlight of the Sashiogi Festival is the Bon Odori, a type of festival dance done around a podium. The summer festival maybe cancelled if there is rain. Please check the official website for any last minute notifications.
