Museum festival – Every year on May 5th the Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore in Omiya (Saitama City) have a small Children’s day Museum Festival. Children can play with old and traditional toys anyday, but for the festival they have an old fashioned showa period shooting gallery.
You can also try on a kabuto on this day and for several days over Golden week . Between May 1st and May 6th between 9 am and noon and again from 1 pm to 4 pm, you can dress up in a kabuto and hold a sword for a photo. Bring your own camera. First come, first served basis.
The event is free for children to participate in.

Access: The Saitama Prefectural museum of history and folklore is a 5 minute walk from Tobu Urban Line’s Omiya Kouen Station
Open: The museum is open from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Closed on Mondays except when it is a public / national holiday.
Cost: 300 yen for adults, usually 150 yen for children but the children’s fee is waived during Golden Week. Part of the museum is free all year round. See this blog article for more information:
