Cosmos Festival and Scarecrows | YOSHIMI
October 26, 2019 @ 10:00 - October 27, 2019 @ 15:00Free
Scarecrows and Cosmos Festival Yoshimi
There are about eight million cosmos in about 8.3 hectares of flower fields in rural Yoshimi. Thankfully they are beside three landmarks which makes them easier to find (see access) and they have a large hot air balloon on the days of the festival for extra visibility! This year, they have scarecrows in the fields too. We were there when they were erecting them just before the festival in 2018:
Scarecrows in the Cosmos fields of Yoshimi
We didn’t walk down the path lined with scarecrows as they were in the middle of putting them up. The work men very kindly offered that we could, but I didn’t want to get in their way. We had the best one beside us anyway, of Chiko chan, who I didn’t even know existed until Tuesday! I could see Pikachu, Doraemon, a Stag Beetle, Snoopy, Kitaro and lots of other figures I recognised in the distance.
This year the festival is on the much later dates of Saturday 26th and Sunday the 27th of October. Each day the festival is from 10 am to 3 pm. You can view the cosmos fields at anytime they are in bloom, but please note there is a very strict rule that you can not park on the roads. And there is a police box in view of the fields. See access section below to see where you can park.
During the Cosmos festival Yoshimi you can pick flowers and edamame at an extra cost. It costs 300 yen to pick the flowers. They provide you with a scissors and a plastic bag which you return to the reception desk when you are finished.
There is a hot air balloon you can ride for a nominal fee. You need to register early for the ride as they stop the rides by 3 pm. If there is strong wind or heavy rain this event will not go ahead.

The Cosmos fields are opposite a large and easily spotted Coca-Cola factory. (Unfortunately not one that you can tour, wouldn’t that be great!?). They are beside a few strawberry farms such as Imanishi farm. The most convenient landmark is Ichigo No Sato as that is where you can park. It is a medium sized roadside station with a nice playground, some restaurants and a farmer’s market. There is an ice-cream van and some food vans there too:
The festival is a little tricky by public transport, but thankfully a decent explanation with photos already exists in English on one of the prefecture’s travel mags:
