Newtype Anime Chronicle will be the very first exhibition at the EJ Anime Museum in Kadokawa Culture Museum in Tokorozawa Sakura Town.

EJ Anime Museum

The EJ Anime Museum will open on November 6th 2020. The opening will co-incide with the grand opening of the Tokorozawa Sakura Town. EJ Anime Museum is located on the 3rd floor of the Kadokawa Culture Museum which is just one of dozens of new entertainment facilities at Sakura Town. EJ stands for Entertainment Japan. There is also an EJ Anime Hotel at Tokorozawa Sakura Town. It opened for business on October 1st. Take a peek inside here.

Newtype

Newtype is a monthly publication from Kadokawa publishers. It is renowned as one of the best sources for the most up-to-date anime information in Japan. It is released on the 10th of every month. The magazine also features manga, tokusatsu, scifi, seiyuu and video games.

The name of the magazine comes from the “Newtypes” in the Universal Century timeline of the Gundam series, specifically Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) and its sequel Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985). Newtype magazine launched a week after Zeta Gundam began airing on March 2, 1985.

Newtype Anime Chronicle event

Newtype is celebrating 35 years this year. The Newtype Anime Chronicle event at Kadcul will showcase the magazine through the years. The image below is from the official event web page. Below the image I’ve included brief details by section represented by the circled numbers in the image:

Monthly Newtype exhibit: Showcasing numerous works of “past” and “present” issues. Lots of valuable items such as original drawings and setting materials from that time, and monthly new type cover illustrations!

Newtype Press: An area that imitates a column corner featuring active creators. Focusing on directors Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai, who represent Japan as directors of anime films. The area will exhibit past interview articles and production materials of their works.

Works related to Mamoru Nagano: Designer Mamoru Nagano has been serializing “The Five Star Stories” in the monthly Newtype since 1986. In this area, materials related to “The Five Star Stories” and “Flower poetry Gothicmade” by Mr. Nagano will be exhibited.

The future of anime: An area where you can think about the future of anime. Along with a special exhibition of works that are deepening ties with fans through anime and events, a colored paper that talks about “What will happen to anime 35 years from now?”

Newtype express: Delivering the latest information on anime this winter and information on featured works
