CANCELLED Floating Dolls 2020 | IWATSUKI
March 1 @ 10:00 - 14:00Yen600
Floating dolls Iwatsuki –
Update February 26th 2020 – the 2020 Floating Dolls event in Iwatsuki has been cancelled due to the coronavirus.
A truly enchanting event of the Dolls festival is the floating dolls of Iwatsuki. The dolls festival is celebrated every year on the 3rd of March in homes where there are girls. People display their hina dolls leading up to the festival and take them down promptly after March 3rd as an old wives’ tale predicts the longer you leave your dolls up the longer it will take your daughter to get married!
Floating Dolls Iwatsuki 2020 – cancelled
In celebration of this unique and warming Japanese festival heritage homes and museums also exhibit historic doll displays. And there are events around the country. Iwatsuki in Saitama is famous for its hina dolls and is a recognised hina doll production and historic area. They have a lot of special events leading up to the dolls festival. Including this magical ceremony where “sandawara” dolls are floated on the pond. It is always held on the closest Sunday to the Hina Matsuri (March 3rd) which this year –
2020 – is Sunday March 1st.
The event takes place from 10 am to 2 pm with the dolls floated from 11 am. The location is the beautiful grounds of the Iwatsuki Castle now a park central to the dolls festival celebrations. One doll costs 600 yen.
There are lots of other events and celebrations in the area on the same day and you can see doll displays in many places in Iwatsuki.
A new dolls museum is opening in Iwatsuki in 2020, check out the details here.
