Halloween Night in the Forest @ Shinrin Park | NAMEGAWA
October 12 @ 17:00 - November 4 @ 20:30Free
Halloween Shinrin Park –
Is there anywhere with Halloween Illumination in Saitama?
Yes there is. One such place is the annual Halloween illumination display in Shinrin Park, also known as Musashi Kyuryo National Government Park.
Can I see night illumination during the Rugby World Cup in Japan?
Yes. For anyone coming to Kumagaya Rugby stadium there is a popular display in Shinrin park with 500,000 lights used in their Halloween art illumination display. It runs from early October to early November.
Shinrin Park Halloween Illumination
Each year from early October to early November, on the weekends and public holidays, you can enjoy Halloween night illumination in Shinrin Park. 500,000 lights are used in art installations of Halloween motifs. The period for 2019 is from Saturday October 12th to bank holiday Monday November 4th.
If you are coming to Kumagaya for the Rugby World Cup this event is close to the Kumagaya Rugby Stadium. Shinrin Park is in Namegawa, one town over from Kumagaya. They have a special rugby snack food on sale for the occasion.
The CENTRAL GATE of the park opens later than usual for this special event. The entrance area of the central gate as well as the walk from the entrance to the botanical garden house and restaurant is lit up with Halloween decorations.
If you come in full Halloween dress-up / costume you will receive a sweet treat from staff. Two years ago was the first time they gave food as a reward for coming in costume. In previous years, we just got a badge for our efforts! The sweet in the last two years was a dish of ice-cream. It was a much better “sweet treat” than we had expected. The sweet treat is limited to the first 50 customers in full costume on the nights of the illumination.
Each year they also have art installations and an art project on display for the whole period of night illumination called “Harmony with Nature 2019”. There are three night illumination events in total: Halloween night illumination, Autumn Leave Illumination and Starlight Christmas illumination. More information here:
Events during Halloween Illumination
They have craft workshops from 5 pm on most of the evenings that the night illumination is on, except for Sunday October 20th. Reception for these events are on the day and you can’t book in advance. They also only go ahead if the weather is suitable and will be cancelled if there is rain. This year the craft workshops include making Halloween costumes and Halloween goods.
They usually have free Halloween face painting the weekend before Halloween, but no information is online about that yet. There are live performances on most nights that the events are running. During the period they sell Pumpkin ice cream at the central gate and luminous candy floss in the Momiji Tea Room.
Usually on the last Sunday night they also have a night time tree climbing event. This year, 2019, it has been confirmed as on November 3rd and booking for this tree climbing event only can be done in advance, from October 24th. It costs 1000 yen per person and is limited to 10 people per session for children older than four years old.
