Higashimatsuyama Summer Festival | HIGASHIMATSUYAMA
July 27 - July 28Free
Celebrated annually on the 4th Saturday and Sunday of July, the Higashimatsuyama Summer Festival combines an older festival, Hachiman Shrine Tenno Sama festival, and a modern twist of it, Tenno Sama Summer festival. Around 80,000 people attend over the two day period.
This year the dates fall on July 27th and 28th. The main part of the festival is at night from 6 pm. This is when the mikoshi, palanquin / portable shrines, do their dance / song fight off! You can see the mikoshi being carried around town before that too. At various stages of the day they also have a children’s mikoshi. There are events from as early as 8 am until 9 pm (but please note the earlier events are usually more for locals and the real festivities don’t start until the afternoon).
The area of the festival is from Botan street (Higashimatsuyama Station) to Jonuma Park (opposite the main Higashimatsuyama Library), including Yakyu Inari baseball shrine.
