Hot Air Balloon Ride in 2020 at Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park
December 20 @ 07:00 – 09:00
Where can I ride a hot air balloon near Tokyo?
The Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park offers the general public the chance to ride in a barrier free hot air balloon at a very special price on fixed dates through the year. It is usually once a month, but during the summer holidays they have two dates for this extraordinary event. And this year, 2020, they will also have two dates in December. They take a break in January and February.
In Japanese: 所沢 熱気球2020
Update 2020: the March 29th and April 26th hot air balloon rides were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. The other dates went ahead as planned. The next one, and the last one in 2020, is December 20th. In 2020 on account of the coronavirus, you now have to book in advance for this event.
Registration for the December 20th event is open. Only the first 100 applications can secure a booking for this popular event. Unfortunately, I can only check periodically to see if it is still live, if you get a 404 message it means the booking form was taken down. If you are brought to a one liner in blue it is probably notification that the 100 spots have already been taken. **Please also use that link to check for any last minute changes due to the coronavirus outbreak, weather or other mitigating factors**
For just 2000 yen for an adult or 1000 yen for school aged children, and those with a disability card, you can enjoy this rare opportunity to go up in an hot air balloon. From 2020 there is a change in the senior citizen and infant price. Previously senior citizens could ride for just 1000 yen but from this year they will be charged the adult price of 2000 yen. Also, previously children under 6 years of age could ride for free, but from this year, 2020, only one child can ride for free per adult. So if you have two children per adult one child will be charged 500 yen for the ride.
For the month of August as the kids are on summer holidays there are two dates for the hot air balloon ride. This year, 2020, summer holiday dates are August 2nd and 30th. The rest of the dates are outlined below.
The time is from 7 am to 9 am.
Only the first 100 people in line will be able to take part in this event. For the time being, due to the coronavirus, you need to book in advance for a position as per the information in the second and third paragraphs. The location in the park is usually in front of the Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Center “Muse” (again please do check the official website before heading out for any last minute changes). Tickets are distributed from 6.40 am. through the online booking.
