Hot Air Balloon Ride in 2021 at Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park
April 11, 2021 @ 07:00 – 09:00
Where can I ride a hot air balloon near Tokyo?
The Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park offers the general public the chance to ride in a barrier free hot air balloon at a very special price on fixed dates through the year. On a clear day you can often see both Mt Fuji and Tokyo Skytree when the balloon ascends. The event is usually on once a month, but during the summer holidays they have two dates for this extraordinary event. And this year, 2021, for the second year in a row, they will also have two dates in December. They take a break in January and February.
In Japanese: 所沢 熱気球2021
In 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak some changes were made. For example, the March and April events were cancelled. However, all the others went ahead as planned. Since Autumn 2020 you now have to book in advance on account of the pandemic.
Please note the event also sometimes gets cancelled last minute on account of weather conditions. It is rare, but it does happen on occasion.
April 11th Registration
March 15th 2021: The March 20th cheap hot air balloon event is not yet even over and they have already opened registration for April 11th. Such is the popularity! Get in quick! Registration form. Only the first 100 applications can secure a booking for this popular event. At this moment in time they have openings for two different slots with 25 openings each. **Please also use that link to check for any last minute changes due to the coronavirus outbreak, weather or other mitigating factors**
The March 20th date seems to be full already. You can try for the special hot air balloon rides at The Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park on March 27th and 28th here.
For just 2000 yen for an adult or 1000 yen for school aged children, and those with a disability card, you can enjoy this rare opportunity to go up in an hot air balloon. Children under 6 years of age could ride for free, but from since last year, 2020, only one child can ride for free per adult. So if you have two children per adult one child will be charged 500 yen for the ride.
The time of the event is from 7 am to 9 am. In a non pandemic year, the first 100 people lined up can get a ticket. Tickets are distributed from 6.40 am. However, for the time being, due to the coronavirus, you need to book in advance for a position as per the information in the second and third paragraphs. The location in the park is usually in front of the Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Center “Muse” (again please do check the official website before heading out for any last minute changes).
