CANCELLED Inariyama Park Cherry Blossom Festival | SAYAMA
April 4 @ 00:00 - April 5 @ 23:59Free
Inariyama Park Cherry Blossom Festival 2020 – There will be no Cherry blossom Festival in Inariyama Park in Sayama park this year due to the Novel Coronavirus. The festival had been tentatively set to take place on April 4th and 5th, but earlier in the week they announced the cancellation of plans for the 21st cherry blossom festival at the park.
Inariyama Park was once part of Johnson Airport, an American military airport established after world war II. In 2002, it was re-opened as a Saitama Prefectural park. There isn’t much for children in the way of playground equipment in the park, but there are lots of open spaces they can run around. Furthermore, the Sayama Municipal Museum is on one corner of the park and that has a lot of family friendly exhibitions. The current exhibition is a Trick Art exhibition.
Inariyama Park Cherry Blossoms
There are approximately 300 Yoshino cherry blossom trees in the park. They are quite mature. They typically bloom the end of March to early April. There are also some yaezakura, the late blooming sakura, in the park. They typically bloom until mid April.
Inariyama Park Cherry Blossom Festival
The Cherry Blossom Festival flyer for 2019:
The Inariyama Park Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the better known cherry blossom festivals in Saitama. The event draws throngs, but thanks to the large size of the park and the large manicured lawns, the park rarely feels crowded. It is possible to spread out and enjoy your own space.
The 2020 festival was tentatively scheduled for April 4th and 5th. Usually, there is live entertainment and events on over the weekend. There are traditional food and festival stalls as well as food vans such as the one pictured above, which sells crepes. They usually light the cherry blossoms up at night too.
Inariyama Park Access
Both the park and museum are very easily accessible from the Inariyama Koen Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro line.
The park is 4 kilometers from the Sayama-Hidaka exit of the Ken-o expressway. There is parking for 101 cars. There is also a small car park beside the museum. **Please note there maybe restrictions to the parking during the festival**
