The 2021 Kasukabe Wisteria Festival will be online

April 25, 2021 @ 10:30 16:00

Kasukabe Wisteria festival

Kasukabe is probably best known as being the home of the fictional anime character Crayon Shinchan. However, wisteria lovers will also know it to be the home of the famous wisteria of Ushijima and Toukaen. The wisteria in Kasukabe Saitama typically bloom from mid April until about the 7th of May. On  Wisteria street in Kasukabe they hold a wisteria festival every (non pandemic!) year. The festival is popular with locals and is family friendly. However, there will be no festival again this year due to Coronavirus.

Last year, 2020, would have been the 39th Kasukabe Wisteria Festival but it was cancelled. This year the date was tentatively set for April 25th, but ultimately they decided to cancel the event. However, they will have a free online “festival” on April 25th. According to Kasukabe City’s official website, they are currently preparing a website for this purpose and they will release the website to the public on the 25th. The website will include current and past photos of the wisteria in bloom as well as videos about the upkeep of the famed wisteria.

However, the wisteria park in Ushijima is open from Saturday April 17th until Wednesday May 5th. Please note there is a cover charge into this park of 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children. (The festival on Wisteria street is free).
