The Kasukabe Wisteria Festival has been cancelled again this year. However, the Wisteria of Ushijima – Tokaen (also in Kasukabe city) is open to the public. The wisteria garden opened yesterday Saturday April 17th and will remain open until Wednesday May 5th. Every year the garden opens from the middle Saturday of April and closes on the first Wednesday of May.

The Wisteria of Ushijima

Ushijima Wisteria is more than 1200 years old. It is said that it is the world’s number one wisteria. Its flowers can drape to up to two meters.

The wisteria in Kasukabe and Ushijima in Saitama Prefecture typically bloom from mid April until about the 7th of May. The park is open from 8 am to 5 pm. Tokaen posted on Facebook that the wisteria in their garden started to bloom particularly early this year. Interestingly and commendably – Tokaen’s Facebook page is in the English language.

Please note there is a cover charge into this park of 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children. (The festival on Wisteria street is free).
