The 2nd ever Kawaguchi Fireworks – Postponed

October 3 @ 18:30 19:30

The first ever Kawaguchi fireworks took place in May 2019. However, in 2020 they decided to hold the fireworks in Autumn. It was actually nothing to do with the Coronavirus, but actually due to last October’s typhoon Hagibis. At this moment in time, they are still scheduled for the first weekend in October – Saturday October 3rd, but there maybe changes due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. Update September 11th: the fireworks have been postponed. The new date has not yet been decided.

Although last year the fireworks were heavily advertised as the first Kawaguchi fireworks, in one way they were not the first. The area had a tradition of summer firework displays between 1952 and 1959. Sixty years later they revived the tradition.

The event is organised by the Kawaguchi Chamber of Commerce and Industry with support from the Kawaguchi Tourist board.

They expect to launch approximately 7,000 fireworks from the Arakawa Sports Park. The fireworks will be launched between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm on a date yet to be decided. However, there will be food stalls and other attractions on the day.

Spectating is free, but if you would like to book a seat in a special reserved area you can already do that on their website.

Several firework displays have been cancelled in 2020. Some, such as the Kawagoe fireworks, were cancelled due to the (subsequently cancelled) Olympics, some were cancelled due to damage from typhoon Hagibis and others, such as the Todabashi fireworks, were cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
