CANCELLED Kumagaya Cherry Blossom Festival 2020

The Kumagaya Cherry Blossoms with rapeseed flowers along the riverbank is one of Saitama’s famous images. The cherry blossom there have been celebrated since the Edo period and the area is listed as one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots.
The Kumagaya Cherry Blossom Festival has been cancelled in 2020 due to the Coronavirus. Important update March 5th 2020: on March 4th the Japanese Government appealed to the general public not to do hanami this year, 2020, due to the Coronavirus scare. Further to this appeal a large percentage of the sakura matsuri organizers decided to cancel their sakura matsuri events for 2020. There were several who had actually already cancelled before the public address. At this stage there are very few sakura matsuri still set to go ahead in 2020.
The sakura of Kumagaya are well renowned as one of the best places to enjoy “sakura matsuri” (cherry blossom festival) in Saitama.
