CANCELLED Mushi Mushi Museum Shinrin Park | NAMEGAWA
February 8 @ 09:30 - June 28 @ 17:00Free
Mushi Mushi Museum – Every year Shinrin Park have a small beetle museum in the West Gate Building. Until 2020 it was always over the summer, but this year it is opening in February! However, due to COVID-19 it was suspended on March 1st 2020. Currently, they have a note to say it is cancelled indefinitely and may not come back after the prefecture wide ban on events is lifted.
The Mushi Mushi museum has grown over the years, but considering it started out with just a handful of beetle display cases, that’s not saying much. Initially it was just preserved pinned beetles in display cases, but now they create a fake woodland scene.
Fake beetles can be seen on tree trumps and positioned as if they were climbing trees. They still have some entomology display cases too with beetles classified and named. This year they have more than beetles with other insects displayed too.
During the period of the beetle and insect museum they will hold some other events too. In the past, on the opening day until mid August they would have some live beetles that children could interact with. But seen as this year the museum is being held from February it is highly unlikely children can meet beetles until nearer the closing date, which is June 28th. The museum is free, but this event – if it runs again – will cost 100 yen per person over three years old.
Another example is a beetle lecture and exploration class which are usually held in August and cost 500 yen per child. Only for children of school going age can participate. The dates for 2020 have not yet been released.
