Sakado Summer Yosakoi
August 17 @ 12:00 - August 18 @ 20:00Free
Sakado Summer Yosakoi, a traditional dance festival, is scheduled for Saturday August 17th and Sunday August 18th 2019. The festival is held around the Tobu Tojo line Sakado station area.
There is usually a couple of children’s performance during the two day period, but last year they were cancelled due to the heat wave. This year the weather currently doesn’t look too bad for the period, but please note any extreme weather such as a high temperatures or a typhoon may cause changes to the proposed schedule. The festival does usually go ahead if there is just light rain.
Sakado host two Yosakoi traditional dance festivals annually. The summer festival is relatively famous although quite new. It was started in 2001, but is one of the largest in the Kanto region during the month of August. Approximately a quarter of a million people come to watch the 5000 plus dancers perform traditional and vibrant yosakoi dance.
The festival is on from noon until 8 pm on both the 17th and 18th. After dark they use huge spotlights to light up the streets so you can continue watching the dancers perform. There are festival stalls and a great atmosphere during the two day festivities.
Sakado also host an autumn Yosakoi festival that takes place every October.
