Satte Summer Festival

The main weekend of the Satte Summer Festival is usually the 2nd weekend in July. The 2020 event has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

At this moment in time, May 2020, the Satte Prefectural Government has not cancelled or announced changes to this event. Due to the current climate with Coronavirus, there is a high chance that further down the line they announce changes or a cancellation. Please do check with the official website, linked in the grey details box at the bottom of the post for the most up-to-date information.

The large lantern floats are one of the major attractions of this annual 4 day three hundred year old festival. On the Saturday they are paraded around from 1 pm to 10 pm. On Sunday they are paraded around before being lined up on Chuo Dori street around 2.30 pm. The festival culminates with the floats gradually building up speed as they turn round and round. That usually begins in the late afternoon as the sun begins to set.

Over the 4 days there are festival stalls and different events happening around the exit of Tobu Nikko Line Satte Station.
