Shibazakura Matsuri at Hitsujiyama Park, Chichibu
April 16, 2021 @ 08:00 – May 5, 2021 @ 17:00
Shibazakura Matsuri Chichibu in 2021– In 2020, Hitsujiyama Park had every intention to go ahead with the shibazakura festival. However, when a State of Emergency was declared the event was cancelled. Moreover, the shibazakura hill was completely closed off to the public in 2020. However, in 2021 they are once again intending to open the shibazakura hill to the public. Currently, April 5th 2021, it looks promising. But during the pandemic, every event is subject to last minute changes even cancellations.
Shibazakura Matsuri Chichibu
The festival will not be like a usual year. But the viewing period has been set as from Friday April 16th to Wednesday May 5th. It is highly likely that the usual dining area will not be available. Also, several of the related events will not go ahead. However, the shibazakura has already started to grow. The moss phlox should be in bloom during the whole period with prime viewing possibly falling the last few days of April. The park is open and as per normal they will charge into the park for the period that the moss phlox (shibazakura) is in bloom. It costs 300 yen per adult.
This is information for a non-coronavirus year: There are food, drink and festival stalls scheduled to be open for the duration. The park is open from 6 am to 8 pm, but the festival area is generally open from 8 am to 5 pm. You have to get a ticket (see cost ↓) to get into the festival area which includes the moss phlox fields. However, weather conditions may effect the opening hours of the food stalls. During the festival they are planning to have various events on, with most of them falling on the weekends.
The park is very busy during this period and the access routes become extremely congested. There is parking, but where at all possible, it is advised to come by public transport. Queues for the parking lot start from 8 am during full bloom and peak viewing. The parking lot is a considerable distance from the festival site up a steep incline.
