Shiki Summer Festival, Shiki Hikawa Shrine | SHIKI

Summer Festivals Shiki – Day 2 and 3 at Shiki Hikawa Shrine. The city of Shiki host a number of festivals during the month of July every year. They are collectively known as Shiki Summer Festival, with a 100 plus year history. The weekend after the July public holiday each year is the main event that attracts hundreds of thousands people. This year that is July 21st and 22nd. The other dates of the festivals are July 8th, 14th and 15th.

Shiki Summer Festival at Hikawa Shrine

On July 14th and 15th the summer festival is held around Shiki’s Hikawa shrine in the Nakamuneoka area of Shiki City. This festival is quite small and it is mainly locals that attend.

July 14th

The festival is from 2 pm to 8 pm. The highlight of the day is scheduled for around 4 pm around the area of Muneoka Community Center, where there is mikoshi*↓ and traditional dance.

July 15th 

The festival starts in the afternoon around 3.30 pm, but the main attractions are at night in and around Muneoka Elementary school from about 7 pm to 8.30 pm when the festival ends. Attractions include a *mikoshi, a palanquin or portable shrine, and festival music. There is a children’s mikoshi too as pictured above.

Access Summer Festival Shiki

The site of the second and third days of the summer festivals Shiki is at the Hikawa Shrine in Nakamuneoka. Map in the grey details box at the very bottom of the post. The nearest stations are Yanasegawa Station on the Tobu Tojo Line and JR Kita Asaka Station. Both are quite a distance on foot so a bus is best advised. By bus it is about 20 minutes to the area.
