Sweet Potato Expo 2020, Saitama Shintoshin
February 21 @ 09:30 - February 24 @ 17:00Free
Sweet Potato Expo 2020 in Saitama Shintoshin.
The Sweet Potato Expo will take place over four days in Saitama Shintoshin from Friday 21st of February to Monday 24th of February.
Saitama is known for its sweet potatoes, particularly the Kawagoe area. Saitama Prefecture was the first place to grow sweet potatoes in Japan after they were brought here to grow during the 18th century.
The expo in Saitama Shintoshin combines a “summit” and a “grand prix”. Food grand prix are very popular in Japan. The all Japan nabe grand prix will take place in Wako City on January 25th and 26th, and there are frequent grand prix throughout the year. During the grand prix at the sweet potato expo they will choose the finest sweet potato in all of Japan.
There are stage events and various entertainment scheduled for the four day expo, but they have yet to release the timetable and finer details. They will be added to the official website in due course. The featured image is from that official website.
Saitama Shintoshin is located beside the station of the same name in the Chuo ward of Saitama City. The Keihin Tohoku line, Takasaki line and Utsunomiya line stop at this station. There are also several buses that go into the station including airport buses from Narita and Haneda.
Events by their very nature are tentative. Please do check with the official sources for any last minute changes due to weather or other mitigating factors, particularly with the current Coronavirus outbreak.
