POSTPONED Torch Relay Saitama Prefecture
July 7 @ 08:00 - July 9 @ 17:00Free
The Olympics torch relay event post was initially written before the Coronavirus outbreak. As of this time, April 8th 2020, things are still pretty much up in the air. The torch relay has been postponed, I would speculate until the same time next year – 2021.
Every prefecture will participate in the
2020 olympics torch relay. It will start in Fukushima on March 26th and end in Tokyo on July 24th. The torch will pass through all 47 prefectures. Saitama is the second last, 46th on the list, and it will arrive from Ibaraki on July 7th. For three days, until the 9th, it will pass through dozens of Saitama’s cities and towns. But there are also a few it will not visit. On each day, there is one “celebration site” where there will be a ceremony.
Torch Relay Dates and Places for 2020
The torch will come to Saitama from Tsukuba on July 7th. Each day between 80 and 90 people will have the great honor of carrying the torch about 200 meters each.
Awaiting updated information for 2021.
The Aviation Memorial Park in Tokorozawa will be the special site, called a “celebration” site, on the route on day 1 of the torch relay through Saitama.
The towns and cities the torch will pass through on July 7th 2020 are:
The Sports and Culture park in Kumagaya will be the celebration site on day 2 of the torch relay through Saitama.
The towns and cities the torch will pass through on July 8th are:
Saitama Shintoshin in Saitama City will be the celebration site of day 3, the final day, of the relay torch passing through Saitama.
The towns and cities the torch will pass through on July 9th are:

More information will be added as it becomes available.
More olympic events will be added to the Saitama Events Calendar over the coming months (posted in December 2019).
Events by their very nature are tentative. Please do check with the official sources for any last minute changes due to weather or other mitigating factors, particularly with the current Coronavirus outbreak.
