“Treeing” at Shinrin Park | NAMEGAWA
September 20, 2020 @ 10:00 – September 21, 2020 @ 16:30
“Treeing” is what they call tree climbing with ropes in Japan. It is a very popular event that is carried out periodically in Shinrin Park in Namegawa.
Due to the coronavirus, the event was cancelled for a couple of months. However, the next dates for this treeing activity in Shinrin Park are in September. Sunday September 20th and Monday September 21st. There are five different time slots: 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pm. The treeing is carried out in different areas of the park each time. The next time, on May 13th, it will be at the South gate. If you ask at the South gate entrance they will direct you to the specific location.
They take 15 people each time. It is not required that you make a booking, but first come first served. They open the reception at 9.30 am to put your name down. It costs 1000 yen per person. Children aged 4 years old and older can participate.
From an article I wrote about our experience tree climbing in Shinrin Park:
The classes are an hour long. First you get geared up. Then there is an explanation of the equipment and how to climb up and come back down. To be honest, listening to the explanation it sounded quite complicated, but once you start executing it you catch on. An hour was just the right length for the four year olds who were getting tired towards the end.

There is plenty of parking. It is charged by the day. At the central gate there is additional independent parking lots. They are cheaper than the park’s parking costs. However, they are normally only open on weekends and public holidays. And some of them are quite a distance from the gate. Bear in mind that this particular gate is also quite far from the nearest play area.
