Fukaya Festival

On the last weekend of July there are normally dozens of festivals all over Saitama Prefecture. However, in 2022 there are only a few. Including the Fukaya Festival. This is the second large scale festival Fukaya has hosted in July of 2022. The other, their Tanabata (Star) Festival, was held earlier in the month.

Fukaya Festival 2022

For the first time in three years, the Fukaya Festival is scheduled to go ahead in 2022. Fukaya City cancelled the festival in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. However, they are following the preventative measures of the prefecture and request that you download the Cocoa app or the Saitama LINE Corona notification system. If you haven’t done it before arriving, you can use a QR code provided at the venue on the day.

The city’s festival floats will be paraded on the day and they will “compete” with each other. There will also be traditional dance performances. Usually there are festival stalls selling traditional festival food and drink, as well as some with festival games. However, in 2022 there will be no space to consume food bought at the festival. They ask that you take it home. In addition, there will be no alcohol served at the festival in 2022. Also, they request that you use a mask as much as possible. Moreover, they may ask you to leave the venue if your seen to be without a mask for a long period of time. They also request that you maintain social distancing.

Lastly, media coverage is not allowed in 2022. They want to facilitate the free flow of movement as much as possible, so presumably the request applies to Youtubers as well as Instagrammers! If in doubt; ask at the venue.
