Information for the annual Fukiage summer festival in Konosu.
Fukiage Summer Festival
This local festival in Fukiage (Konosu / Konousu) is not as well-known or well attended as the Paper Lantern festival or Konosu Fireworks, but its a fun evening out all the same. About 12,000 people attend. There is a portable shrine during the afternoon and an illuminated float at night. In addition, there are usually some festival stalls. You can also enjoy a beer garden.
Like many of the summer festivals in the “IKOKA” area (Ina, Kitamoto, Okegawa, Konosu, Ageo) the festival is held on the old Nakasendo. In this case, close to the Fukiage Station (JR Takasaki Line). The Nakasendo was like a highway between Edo and Kyoto. “Konosu-shuku” was one of 69 stations on the route and “Fukiage-shuku” was a mid-station between the Konosu and Kumagai stations. In present day Japan, Fukiage is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring and cosmos in Autumn.
