Are there any Halloween events in the Greater Tokyo area in 2021?

Yes, there are. More than there were in 2020, but there are also a few places that had a Halloween event in 2020, but won’t in 2021. Also, places that had online events last year, will have them in ‘real life’ again this year. Many plan to go ahead as normal, while others will have a scaled down version of their usual Halloween. Roppongi Hills Halloween Events

I distinctly remember that the Roppongi Hills event used to be of the few that was held on actual Halloween, October 31st, even when it was a weekday. But I see they have succumbed to the Japanese way of doing it and now hold it on the last weekend of October. You can see up-to-date information on the official website. The Halloween displays last until October 31st. However, the winter illumination is turned on the same night and will run until mid January 2022.

Held on the last weekend of October, this one is more for adults than children believe it or not. It has become immensely popular and is now one of the biggest cos-play events in all of Japan. Approximately 20,000 cos-players turned up for the 2018 event! It is a daytime event held between 10 and 6 pm around Ikebukuro station’s east exit. Also in Ikebukuro, but more family friendly, is the Halloween celebrations in Sunshine City. From mid to end of September the mall will start to run some events. However, in 2021, things are a bit different. Last year in 2020, most of the celebrations were online, but in 2021 they have a mix: online events and in person events. Within Sunshine City they will have a Halloween photo spot in October. From October 15th until the 31st they will have pumpkins out for children to play with. Bakeneko Halloween Parade

Kagurazaka Bakeneko festival has the specified requirement that you dress in a cat costume. It is also the only parade I know of that requires you pay for the pleasure of making an ass – or more poignantly a feline – out of yourself in public! It is 500 yen for adults, but children go free. They’ve a good English web page with lots of additional information.

2021 information: the event was initially scheduled for October 11th, but unfortunately they have decided to postpone it for a whole year. The next date will be in 2022, Sunday October 16th.

If you come to the museum in costume you can get in for just 1000 yen (700 yen for children) after 5 pm.

The aquarium is dressed up for Halloween! They will have special events on during their “Halloween week”, which is an annual event at Maxell Aqua Park. However, like many other places Halloween will be scaled down a bit in 2021. For the 2021 event, there will be a day theme of “funny party” and the night event will be themed on “Dreams on Halloween night”.

2021 Information. Halloween week is from October 25th to October 31st. Here is the official English event page.

Yoimuri Land

Reintroducing Yoimuri Land in 2021! Yoimuri Land was on the annual round up in the earlier years. I think I accidentally removed it when updating one of the years! I only noticed today, October 15th 2021! So here it is. And great news for 2021 – they have some Halloween events. Moreover, they have a campaign this year where, if you come in a decorated mask, you can get a discount on the entry fee. However, please note you must have decorated it yourself. They have more information on the official website.

Tokyo Tower Halloween

In a normal year, during the period of Halloween you can rent Halloween costumes at Tokyo tower. However, due to the pandemic it would seem that service is not available in 2021. Also, they normally have Halloween decorations, but they also don’t seem to be doing that this year. But they are having a Halloween of sorts with their special Identity V collaboration in the month of October. This is a charged event and tickets can be bought online.

2021 Information. This October, Tokyo Tower is nothing like a normal October. However, they are having an Identity V collaboration event until the end of the month. Information in English (machine translated) on the official website.

Disney certainly knows how to do Halloween. Disney character Halloween goods are stacked on the shelves in early September. And the official “Disney’s Halloween” starts the second week in September annually. Disney’s Halloween runs until October 31st or November 1st if that falls on a weekend.  There is a great blog (linked: TDR Explorer) in English with further details of all that Disney has to offer at Halloween.  The official Disney Resort website in English.

For the month of October, Narita Yume Farm, entices customers with many special seasonal events, including their Halloween celebrations. Kawasaki Halloween Events

Kawasaki was the largest Halloween parade in all of Japan. It attracted thousands of participants each year, many with unique costumes. Moreover, thousands of thousands of spectators came from all over Japan – the world even. The area was one of the most famous for celebrating Halloween, with various Halloween events throughout October. It was a great shock and so sad to read earlier in the year, that they have discontinued the Kawasaki Halloween parade. The end of an era. I am so glad I got to visit it in the past. Thank you very much to all the organizers for their hard work and dedication for 24 years.

The Kawasaki Halloween Parade has been discontinued, permanently. 🙁

Yugawara Halloween

Yugawara Halloween is back! Last year, 2020, it was cancelled. Yugawara is the only place I know in the greater Tokyo area with Halloween fireworks. However, the fireworks will not be on this year on account of the pandemic. They normally launch about 6,000 fireworks on the last Saturday of October. They also have a Halloween tree which is something that caught on as a “thing” for Halloween in Japan in the last couple of years! This year things are a bit different to normal, but they will have a celebration with live stage performances.

Information 2021: Sunday October 31st from 10 am to 5 pm. Live stage performances, balloon art etc. Official event web page here.

Yamate SeiYoukan Halloween Walk

Shikitei in Omiya will have their annual Halloween afternoon tea this year despite the Coronavirus. And they have a take out option this year on account of the virus. Booking is already open and the event runs from October 7th until November 29th 2021.

Halloween Night in the Forest

The annual “Halloween Night in the Forest” at Shinrin park is on again this year. However, this year, for the first time ever, the event is on weekday nights only. Its usually the other way round! It starts Monday the 18th until the 22nd and again from the 25th to the 29th:

Marigold Hill Halloween

Supposedly the largest Halloween event in Kita-kanto, the Honjo Halloween event was held indoors for many years. This year for the first time they are bringing it outdoors, to Marigold Hill. Where better to have a Halloween event than in a field of thousands of orange marigold flowers:

Ario Halloween

The Ario malls have a “Hello Halloween” event with Pompompurin on this year in dozens of their branches including the Kawaguchi, Washinomiya (Kuki), Fukaya and Ageo branches in Saitama. They have an official Halloween web page, with all participating Ario branches listed. Each branch is a little different, but most have a dance event at the core of their Halloween celebrations.

Tobu Zoo Halloween Events

The Tobu Zoo Halloween events are a little different to normal on account of the pandemic. But they will mark the occasion. Full details available on this blog in English:

Halloween Festa at Seibu Yuenchi

Seibu Amusement Park usually open their “Halloween Festa” from the middle of September.  Among the popular events is Trick or treat and parades. However, since they reopened in 2020, after half a year of renovations, things have been very different. Many of their popular events don’t seem to have a place in the retro amusement park. Unfortunately it looks like they will not have Halloween events again this year. But they haven’t confirmed either way yet.

Omiya Halloween

It appears that for the second year in a row, there will be no Omiya Halloween fes . They actually haven’t released any official information either way. But they didn’t in 2020 either. If the event was going ahead they would have started promoting it by now.

Kisai Halloween

The Kisai Halloween event is cancelled again in 2021. Kisai Halloween was Saitama’s longest running Halloween event before the pandemic.

Halloween World Warabi

The long running Halloween event in Warabi city (near Tokyo) kept things quiet this year, but there was a small event earlier in the month.
