Hodoji Market with plum blossoms in bloom, Shiki, Saitama

Hodoji in Shiki City will hold their fifth Hodoji Market on Sunday February 25th 2024. Hodoji or Hodo Temple (also spelt Houdoji) is a popular place for tree blossoms in Shiki City. Both the plum blossoms and the cherry blossoms are well known at the temple. This market will coincide with the bloom of the plum blossoms, which are currently in full bloom.

Hodoji Market

According to official sources, this is the fifth ever market, of this type, at the temple. So far, the other four have proved to be very popular. Each year they step it up a notch too, adding new activities and challenges for visitors. So it is more than just a handmade market. They have food too, including marshmallows roasted on a campfire! That is just one of several “experiences” on offer this year. They will also activities for kids, such as face painting.

Blossoms

The temple is known for its plum and cherry blossoms. The plum blossoms typically bloom for much of February. Some photos of the plum blossoms from the temple on February 15th 2024:

The cherry blossoms are particularly well renowned. Before the pandemic, they had a light up event annually during the period of the cherry blossoms bloom. They have been lighting up the plum blossoms in 2024, so there is a chance that they will light up the plum blossoms in 2024 too.

This temple also has regular yoga and calligraphy classes.

Access

The temple is about a 15 minute walk from Tobu Tojo Line’s Shiki Station. There is some parking available at the temple.
