Green Santa Motomachi

Santa Claus will hopefully be back in Motomachi again this year. However, with the Coronavirus Outbreak he may not be able to do his usual meet and greets. If he does come to Motomachi, he usually walks around the shopping district. If you meet him you can request to get a photo taken with him. While this is a “free” event, the “Green Santa” is a charity Santa and they welcome donations.

However, they have confirmed they will have their usual “twinkle Christmas” from November 3rd to Christmas day. During this period their illumination will be on. And this year they have a new photo spot where you can get a photo of yourself on Santa’s sleigh, pictured below. It is located beside a large Christmas tree.

Santa usually visits the two weekends before Christmas and Christmas eve.  We won’t know until nearer the time if Santa can come or not. Similarly the times will not be confirmed for 2020 until a later stage, but in previous years it has been 11.30 am, 1.30 pm, 3 pm and 4.30 pm – each time for about an hour.

The Santa event normally coincides with the popular London Bus appearance. The London Bus has not yet been confirmed for 2020.

Motomachi can be accessed from Minato Mirai Line Motomachi Chugakai station. It is also close to Ishikawacho station on the JK Negishi line. By car it is close to both the Yamashita and Yokohama Park exits of the Shuto Expressway Yokohane and Kariba lines.

There are lots of excellent family attractions in the vicinity of Motomachi. And of course it is the home of China town. Official China Town website (Japanese language).
