Kawagoe Bakery Raku Raku is possibly the most popular bakery in Kawagoe. It is certainly one of the busiest and most famous. Raku Raku is one of dozens of eateries in Kawagoe offering take out and delivery services during the Saitama State of Emergency due to the coronavirus outbreak. Furthermore, the outdoor seating options are particularly appealing during this time of a pandemic.
Kawagoe Bakery Raku Raku
The Raku Raku bakery is known far and wide for its homemade clean bread and flour based food. Raku Raku bread, cookies, cakes, pastries, and pies are made from 100% Hokkaido wheat flour. They don’t use any artificial additives, coloring or preservatives. They provide allergy information, with some basic English available too, and have some bread and pastries that are dairy free.
I think they have a great selection of flour-based oven baked food. They frequently add to the selection too. I particularly like that they have some dairy free options. Dairy free pan is becoming quite common place now, but for a long time Raku Raku bakery was one of only a handful of places that had dairy free bread / baked goods. There is bread with fruits, even vegetables in them. My kids particularly like their fresh baked melon pan.
Most of their business has always been take out anyway, but delivery is something that was started during the Coronavirus induced State of Emergency in Saitama. But if you are getting take out you can eat on site in the small garden at the side of the bakery.
The garden has some wooden tables and chairs and is protected from the sun by groves and sun umbrellas. During this hot season they have a mist spray that cools the entrance to the bakery and the seating area, too. You can help yourself to complementary tea or coffee from self service machines. They are just little cups, but the coffee is quite good.
A sandwich shop was added to the bakery in the summer of 2016. It is a separate building across the (narrow) road, a veritable stone’s throw away. If you prefer to eat in, this newer addition to the bakery (normally*) has a sit down area. Moreover, it also has outdoor seating – on the rooftop. See Kawagoe from a different angle from this rooftop terrace!

The bakery is located beside the Penny Candy Alley. The street is not pediastrianized, but as it is a narrow one way direction only road, it is infrequently used by cars. If you are coming by car, there is a charged car park “Rakuda Plaza” across the road (with an old storehouse in it!) that is convenient and not as expensive as others.
Any tourist bus or regular bus bound for the storehouse district will bring you within walking distance of the bakery. Alight at Ichibangai bus stop if you are on a regular bus or at the Penny Candy Alley stop if you are on a tourist bus.
