Information for the 2019 Santa Claus Visit at Kichijoji Station in Musashino.
Brief update 2020: this post is getting a lot of traffic in 2020. I presume, like me, people want to know if there is a Santa visit this year. At the moment, it looks very unlikely. This year for the first night of light up they had no switch on event. They normally do have one and that is normally when Santa visits. They currently have no Santa and no Christmas events (other than illumination) scheduled. The only places with a confirmed Santa visit, at the moment, is Hamley’s in Yokohama and LaQua, Tokyo Dome City. As of November 22 2020.
For thirty years Kichijoji station has had winter illumination around the station during the winter. This year they have a 6.7 meter Santa house as part of their illumination display. The illumination will be switched on in the evenings from November 3rd and run until January 13th.
For the switch on event on November 3rd, Santa Claus himself will visit the station to turn on the lights of the house for the 2019 Kichijoji Station winter illumination. The event runs from around 5.30 pm until about 7 pm. The lighting ceremony will start around 6 pm with a countdown. There is other entertainment also planned, such as music performances.
During the time that Santa is visiting there will be an opportunity to get a photo taken with him for the first 100 people in line. He will be giving a “puchi” present too, but mainly to children.
This is one of the first places you can visit Santa in the greater Tokyo area in 2019. Only a handful of places have Santa visits in November. Another place you can visit Santa in November (on the 9th) is at Metsa Village in Hanno City in Saitama Prefecture.
