Kids Glamping Play Area and garden with swing and trampoline opens in chic “The Garden Cafe” in The Garden Hotel Shiunkaku Higashimatsuyama.
An advertisement in this month’s Moteco piqued my interest. The caption read “Kids Gramping Room New Open” with a photo of an indoor outdoor play area. It wasn’t the Engrish that caught my attention, even if it did give me a snicker, it was the indoor glamping type playroom. With an inset photo of the garden adding an incentive to check out the new cafe asap.
Kids Glamping Room
The Kids Glamping play room (like the cafe that houses it) opened for business on September 21st 2018. Currently, it is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It really does have a glamping feel and that outdoor feel indoors.
It has fake grass down as flooring. The teepee in the back right corner of the play area is a proper tent, not just a play tent. In the tent there is a number of toys including wooden cooking toys. They have some etch-a-sketches. There is a nice selection of books. There are Rodys for kids to ride on as well as a Thomas the Track train ride. They have some nice soft toys. By the window they have two small ball pools. For older children there is a dart board. The room has a hammock, camping tables and camp lanterns as well as lots of camp decorations. They also currently have Halloween decorations.
The kids glamping room is FREE in for patrons of the cafe. You don’t have to buy anything for the children. We had rang in advance to check that it truly was okay for me and my friend and our six kids to play with only us adults buying food and they said it was no problem. We could have just ordered coffee too.
If you want to eat it is in a separate room to the play room. If you are just ordering coffee it is okay to have it in the kids glamping room. There are small wooden folding tables there with camping chairs for patrons to enjoy a beverage. You can also eat or drink outside in the garden:
The garden is beautiful and it is like something from a tropical country with beautiful (what I think are) cycad trees. The lawn is immaculately kept. They have a trampoline and wooden swing for children. There is a small waterfall at the base of the garden. On the veranda there are tables where you can eat or drink. And the bonus: you have a great view of the peony garden at Yakyu Inari.
The cafe menu is basic. They really only have yakisoba, pancakes and okonomiyaki at the moment, but there is a good choice of coffee. The coffee is expensive, especially if you are visiting the cafe without children. Prices start from 800 yen for the coffee and from 500 yen for a light meal. The kids meal is 1000 yen.
However, if you are visiting with children, it is well worth the hiked yenny. Especially for me with 4 children. My meal, a pancake with sausage and egg, cost 1100 yen. My friends meal was even better value: okonomiyaki with a small potato salad and some chips for 800 yen. I had order envy! I tasted it and it was really delicious. I recommend this over the pancakes:
There are very few eateries in Saitama where kids can play for 3 hours without buying them anything or paying a cover charge. And if we were to go to a private play center it would cost four times the price for them to play! I thought it was excellent value for our situation.
Halloween at The Garden Cafe Higashimatsuyama
They currently have Halloween photo props in the cafe and a “grab all the treats you can” activity when you pay your bill. Even though we didn’t buy any food for our kids they were allowed do the Halloween activity. There was a great selection of food treats in the pile. Basically whatever they could pull up in one go with one hand they were allowed to keep. They did well!
The Garden Hotel Shiunkaku has been there for as long as I remember. It was an old fashioned somewhat dilapidated hotel until they renovated this year. THey had their renewal open earlier in the year. They really did a great job on the building, both inside and out. The Garden Cafe, the kids glamping play area and the garden share toilets with the hotel’s on the ground floor. There is currently some Halloween decoration in the hotel too:
The hotel is open 24 hours seven days a week, but the Garden Cafe and the kids glamping play area are only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10.30 am to 5 pm.
