Kurome River Asaka cherry blossoms

The cherry blossoms along the Kurome River in Asaka City (near Tokyo) have become quite famous in recent years. There are approximately 232 Somei Yoshino cherry blossom rivers along the river. And during the period of bloom they have both a ‘sakura matsuri’ (cherry blossom festival) and ‘yozakura’ (cherry blossom light up). The festival is on for two days and the light up is on for at least 15 days. More information below.

Kurome River Cherry Blossom Festival

The 18th annual Kurome River Cherry Blossom Festival, along the Kurome Embankment in Asaka, is on Saturday March 30th and Sunday March 31st 2024. There will be food trucks and stalls on both days and they will have several events such as a stamp rally, drone play and exhibitions. In addition, there is live entertainment including a Yosakoi dance performance.

Separately, they will also light up the trees at night. They use approximately 200 lanterns for the sakura light up. They will start the light up tomorrow night, Thursday March 21st 2024 and it will be on nightly until Sunday April 7th (all things equal).

As far as I know there is no official parking lot for this event. Moreover, any of the parking lots at nearby public facilities are used for festival stalls or festival related events on the days of the festival. Thankfully, the venue is within walking distance of Asakadai Station, which is on the Tobu Tojo line, and JR Kita-Asaka station. It takes about ten minutes on foot from both.
