Meat meets music fes – a six day meat and music festival in the heart of Saitama Prefecture.
Saitama loves their meat ‘festivals’. Before I removed the events calendar from the blog, several annual meat festivals were featured. However, in 2020 on account of the Coronvirus none of them went ahead. This year, the Meat meets Music festival is scheduled to go ahead this week in Saitama Super Arena. Saitama super arena used to have a nikufes annually in October. I suspect this Meat meets Music festival has replaced that, as it seems nikufes has suspended its operations. Hopefully only temporarily. The Meat meets Music festival’s sounds like a beefed up version of Nikufes, if you’ll pardon the pun!
Music and meat festival
This new meat festival is a collaboration from LAF Entertainment, who are the largest of the food festival organizers in Japan, and Live Exam who deal mainly in music events. In the food area they have a selection of high quality meat from Hokkaido as well as famous beef brands such as the highly acclaimed Saga beef. They have also gathered chefs from all over Japan to provide the best of Japanese meat cuisine.
Furthermore, on the music stage, artists of various genres are set to perform. Live performances include rock, dance, idol and anime music performers. For the opening day, Tuesday November 23rd, there are seven different live performances scheduled, but it is the weekend dates – November 27th and 28th – that are the highlight of the music side of the festival. On Saturday 27th the theme is “Male Idol Groups” and there are several performances scheduled by boy bands. The festival ends on the 28th with the “Female Idol Groups”. Several girl groups are performing on the day. Please note that some of the music performances require advance booking and have a charge (see cost section).
During the period of the festival you can also see night illumination at the neighboring Keyaki Hiroba of Saitama Shintoshin. And don’t miss the Christmas tree in nearby Cocoon City!
The Meat meets music festival will start on public holiday Tuesday November 23rd and runs until Sunday November 28th. Hours: from 10 am to 9 pm, but from Wednesday to Friday it doesn’t start until 11 am. Also, on the last night (28th) it will finish at 8 pm.
There is no entry fee into the event space in Saitama Shintoshin. However, you have to pay into some of the music events. On the 23rd, 27th and 28th they have the music performances separated into a free stage area and a charged area. A ticket into the charged area costs 2900 yen, but it includes two ‘meat ticket’s. One ‘meat ticket’ is worth 700 yen. The meat and dishes at the festival cost between 700 and 1400 yen. Beer is also 700 yen. Rice costs 300 yen.
Please do check the official website for any last minute changes due to the coronavirus and / or other mitigating factors. You can also check the exact performances and prices on that site.
